Welcome...
to the UNESCO Chair on ‘Societal Climate Change Research and Resilience,’ a global initiative dedicated to bridging science and society in the face of climate change. This Chair is a collaboration between UNESCO, the University of Hamburg, and Helmholtz- Zentrum Hereon. Led by Prof. Dr. Ratter at the University of Hamburg, this Chair focuses on empowering communities and fostering resilience through innovative, culturally rooted solutions to one of humanity’s greatest challenges.
Our mission is to transform knowledge into action. By combining scientific research, local knowledge, and participatory approaches, we aim to develop sustainable strategies that address the unique vulnerabilities of small islands and other at-risk regions. Through global collaboration and interdisciplinary research, we work to inspire transformative changes, strengthen disaster risk reduction efforts, and enable communities to adapt and thrive.
At the heart of our work are partnerships, education, and engagement. From training the next generation of climate leaders to co-developing living geography labs with communities, we strive to create meaningful, lasting impacts that resonate across cultural and geographical boundaries.
Join us as we build a future where resilience is not just a response to climate change but a shared global practice.
