Visit to the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), Hamburg
It was a great pleasure to visit the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) in Hamburg and engage in a stimulating exchange with Director Isabell Kempf and Edith Hammer.
Our discussion focused on the critical role of lifelong learning in advancing climate action. We explored how local climate education, city-to-city exchange, and practice-oriented programmes can make climate change tangible in people’s everyday lives and empower communities to respond effectively.
The work of the UNESCO Chair on Societal Climate Change Research and Resilience at the University of Hamburg aims to bridge global climate challenges with local realities, fostering agency and resilience, particularly in island and coastal regions—from the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean to the North Sea.
The exchange highlighted strong synergies and opened promising avenues for future collaboration between UIL and the UNESCO Chair.
