Connecting Living Places Through Travelling Ideas
The UNESCO Chair on Societal Climate Change Research and Resilience at the University of Hamburg recently presented its Travelling Ideas framework at the 2026 General Assembly of the Earth and Society Research Hub (ESRAH).
The framework explores how communities facing climate and sustainability challenges can learn from one another through the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and inspiration. Rather than focusing on the transfer of solutions alone, Travelling Ideas highlight the importance of dialogue, adaptation, and collaboration between places with different environmental, social, and cultural contexts.
At the centre of the framework are Living Places: communities where climate change is experienced, understood, and acted upon collectively. By connecting Living Places across the world, the initiative aims to strengthen networks of exchange and support locally adapted pathways towards resilience.
We welcome contacts and ideas from communities, researchers, educators, practitioners, civil society organisations, policymakers, and anyone interested in contributing to this growing international network. Whether you would like to share an idea, showcase a local initiative, explore collaboration opportunities, or simply learn more about the concept, we would be delighted to hear from you.
